Objective

Many Europeans do not meet the physical activity guidelines, and inactivity has increased during the pandemic. Sport and physical activity have the ability to improve body perception, but judgmental attitudes are a barrier to participation in physical activities. This project will develop materials for current and future health or sports professionals to enhance their ability to create welcoming and inclusive environments for physical activities and sports that promote a positive body image and integrate these concepts across Europe.

Implementation

At four physical and at least five online meetings, six partners will collaborate to prepare a 7.5 and 15 ECTS curriculum 'Body Image and Inclusive Physical Activity' that will be embedded in university courses for future health and sport professionals, together with three stackable micro-credential courses to serve as continuing education for people already working in these professions. Courses will be embedded within partner university programs, and multiplier events will enhance the reach of the project.

Outcomes

By implementing these curricula for future and current professionals in physical education, healthcare, sports coaching, and public health, the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of professionals working in this field will be enhanced. This will result in the creation of more welcoming and inclusive environments for sports and physical activity, encouraging greater participation in physical activities among diverse population groups, leading to a range of physical and mental health benefits for citizens across Europe.

European Collaboration

Experts from six different European countries are working together as a consortium to create a curriculum titled 'Body Image and Inclusive Physical Activity.' This curriculum will be integrated into university courses to educate future health and sports professionals.
